Is There Really an All-Natural Hair Relaxer?
Sep 14th 2011, 07:47

I get asked this question a lot. I know that for some people, a completely chemical-free hair relaxer would be up there with a pill that causes you to lose weight while you eat nothing but chocolate and cupcakes.

My short answer to the question is here, along with an in-depth explanation. Also, two words: Rio and Copa. Remember those? I recall those late-night Rio infomercials that claimed little Brazilian girls ran around with this supposedly all-natural product in their hair all day long. It was safe enough "to eat." And I recall a friend of mine who used it and ended up with green hair. Many women ended up with much worse, like hair loss.

A lot of pain and frustration can be avoided if we just do a little research. That means reading lists of ingredients and employing some common sense. Why are lye and no-lye relaxers still around, if there are actually chemical-free products that can give the same results? When you think about that, the answer to whether or not an all-natural relaxer exists is simple to understand.
